AI & Generative AI Policy
AI & Generative AI Policy
Dynamic Computing recognises that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI technologies can support research, analysis, software development, and scholarly communication. At the same time, authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical standards of all submitted work.
The use of AI tools must be transparent, responsible, and consistent with accepted principles of research integrity and scholarly publishing.
Purpose
This policy provides guidance on the appropriate use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Generative AI, large language models, and other AI-assisted technologies during the preparation, submission, peer review, and publication of manuscripts submitted to Dynamic Computing.
Acceptable Uses of AI
Authors may use AI-assisted tools to support appropriate aspects of research and manuscript preparation, provided that the authors critically review, verify, and take responsibility for all resulting content.
Examples of acceptable uses may include:
- Improving grammar, spelling, punctuation, and language clarity.
- Enhancing readability and general writing quality.
- Assisting with manuscript organisation or outlining.
- Formatting references or bibliographic information.
- Assisting with programming or code development.
- Supporting data analysis or exploratory analysis where appropriate.
- Assisting with summarisation or other research-support activities.
All AI-assisted outputs must be carefully reviewed and validated by the authors before they are incorporated into a manuscript or submitted to the journal.
AI-Generated Content and Author Responsibility
Authors remain solely responsible for every aspect of their submitted manuscript, regardless of whether AI tools were used during its preparation. The use of AI does not transfer responsibility for the manuscript to an AI system, software provider, or other automated service.
Authors are responsible for ensuring:
- The originality and integrity of the manuscript.
- The accuracy of facts, analyses, interpretations, and conclusions.
- The authenticity and accuracy of citations and references.
- The integrity of figures, tables, datasets, and other research materials.
- Compliance with applicable ethical and publication standards.
Disclosure of AI Use
Authors should disclose the use of AI or Generative AI tools when such tools have made a substantive contribution to the preparation or development of the manuscript.
The disclosure should identify, where applicable:
- The name of the AI tool or system used.
- The purpose for which the tool was used.
- The general nature or extent of its contribution.
Routine use of AI-assisted tools for basic spelling, grammar, punctuation, or language improvement generally does not require a detailed disclosure, provided that the intellectual content and scholarly responsibility remain with the authors.
AI Tools Cannot Be Authors
Artificial Intelligence systems, Generative AI tools, language models, chatbots, or other automated technologies cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of a manuscript.
Authorship requires human responsibility and accountability for the research, manuscript, and published work. AI systems cannot accept responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, or ethical conduct of research.
Accuracy and Verification
Authors must independently verify all AI-assisted or AI-generated text, citations, references, data, code, images, analyses, interpretations, and other outputs before submission.
AI systems may produce inaccurate, incomplete, biased, outdated, or fabricated information. Authors must therefore exercise appropriate academic and professional judgement when using AI-assisted technologies.
AI-Generated Images and Other Content
Where AI tools are used to generate or substantially modify images, figures, illustrations, code, datasets, or other research materials, authors should ensure that such use is scientifically and ethically appropriate and is disclosed where relevant.
Authors must also ensure that the use of AI-generated or AI-assisted materials does not infringe copyright, intellectual property rights, privacy rights, confidentiality obligations, or other applicable legal requirements.
Confidentiality
Authors, reviewers, and editors must exercise caution when using AI systems that process confidential, unpublished, or otherwise sensitive information.
Confidential manuscripts, reviewer reports, editorial communications, personal information, or other protected material should not be uploaded to external AI services where doing so could compromise confidentiality, privacy, intellectual property, or the integrity of the editorial process.
Use of AI by Reviewers
Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and should not upload unpublished manuscripts, reviewer reports, or confidential editorial information into AI systems that are not authorised to process such material.
Reviewers remain responsible for the content and recommendations contained in their review reports. AI tools must not replace the reviewer's independent scholarly judgement.
Use of AI by Editors
Editors may use appropriate technological tools to support administrative or editorial activities where such use does not compromise confidentiality, fairness, or editorial independence.
Final editorial decisions must be made by qualified editors based on appropriate scholarly and ethical considerations. AI systems cannot make independent final decisions regarding the acceptance, rejection, or publication of manuscripts.
Research Integrity
The use of AI must not result in fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, manipulation of research data, misleading presentation of results, or other forms of research misconduct.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that AI-assisted research and manuscript preparation comply with the journal's Research Integrity, Publication Ethics, and Plagiarism Policy.
Editorial Assessment
The Editorial Office may request clarification regarding the use of AI technologies where such clarification is necessary to assess the originality, integrity, accuracy, or ethical compliance of a manuscript.
Where concerns arise regarding inappropriate or undisclosed AI-assisted content, the journal may investigate the matter and take appropriate editorial action in accordance with its publication ethics and research integrity policies.
Policy Updates
As AI technologies and scholarly publishing practices continue to evolve, Dynamic Computing may periodically review and update this policy to reflect emerging best practices, technological developments, ethical considerations, and applicable standards in scholarly publishing.
Contact
Questions regarding this policy or the acceptable use of AI in research and manuscript preparation may be directed to the Editorial Office through the contact information provided on the journal website.
